Well, Halloween is over, which means Christmas and the end of the year are just around the corner. I just want to give you an update on what is happening this holiday season and where you can find me.
Tonight I’ll be at Northside Tavern with the Wasted Potential Brass Band. Party band plus dive bar? What could go wrong? Music starts at 10. Wasted Potential Website Northside Tavern Website
Tuesday morning (11/5), bright and early, I’ll be hanging out with Black Jack on WRFG 89.3, a local Atlanta radio station and huge supporter of the blues. We’ll be talking about the blues challenge, upcoming shows and upcoming projects, as well as playing some tunes. I’ll be on the show around 6:30 am. Those of you in Atlanta can simply tune in to 89.3 and you’ll hear me. Those of you who are out of town, you can also listen online at wrfg.org. WRFG Website This is also where you can pledge to support local radio and keep the blues alive!
Thursday, 11/7, I’ll be playing some tunes at Limerick Junction in the Virginia Highlands. Y’all already know how I feel about this place. Good tunes, original and some other abstract ones, good staff and good people watching, right in the heart of the Highlands. I’ll be playing solo 11/7 but will be back joined by Jon Schwenke on Friday, 11/29. Music starts at 9:30. Limerick Junction Website
Friday and Saturday, 11/8 and 11/9, I’ll be back at my home base, Doc’s in Smyrna. I love playing at this place and it’s probably my longest standing gig, so I really consider everyone here family. Great late night food and late night music. Lots of soul and r&b as well as some original music. This is a full band show with music late both nights. Friday 10-3 and Saturday 10-2:30. Located across Cobb Parkway from the Battery. Doc’s Website
Sunday, 11/10, I have the privilege of opening for Amanda Fish at Connect Live in Woodstock. I have not yet gotten to see this woman live but I have watched some footage, and for real, y’all are in for a treat (as am I)!!! I’m really looking forward to this. Amanda Fish began as a singer songwriter in late 2012, refining her original material as a solo act for 2 years before she formed her band in early 2014, a Roots Rock and Soul project featuring Amanda’s signature gritty lyrics belted out with her ‘from-the-gut’ vocals.
In 2015, she released her first all-original LP, “Down In The Dirt“, on VizzTone Label Group, for which she was awarded the 2016 “Sean Costello Rising Star” Blues Blast Music Award. Amanda became a semifinalist in the 2017 International Blues Challenge where she garnered acclaim from new fans and industry professionals alike. From her performance at the IBC, she was able to start touring the US and Canada.
In 2018, Amanda released her second all original studio album, “Free“, on VizzTone Label Group, debuting at #6 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart and nabbing a 2019 Blues Music Award for Best Emerging Artist Album.
Saturday, 11/23, I will be headed back to the Hunt House in Marietta with the band. This will be an all originals show, but the most fun part is that our good friend Carly Harvey will be in town from DC. We can’t wait to play some tunes with her and reminisce on old times. She has played Atlanta a few times so you may recognize her, and has represented DC in the Blues Challenge. What an awesome thing to be connected with both of these powerful soul singers this month! This show also begins at 7 pm. Hunt House Website
Based out of Washington, DC, Carly Harvey combines Blues, Jazz, Soul, & Americana roots styles to create a unique sound that calls to mind Etta James, Bonnie Raitt, Nina Simone, with a little Ella Fitzgerald thrown in for good measure. In July 2018, Ms. Harvey was featured in Big City Blues Magazine as one of the youngest Blues artists to watch. She has had the privilege to share the stage with iconic musicians including Annika Chambers, Ron Holloway, Kebbie Williams, Ephraim Owens, Cory Henry, Kofi Burbridge, Junior Marvin, and Susan Tedeschi, another artist whose work has been foundational to her musical evolution.
Carly is a two-time DC Blues society Battle of the bands winner (duo 2016, band 2019) and was proclaimed DC’s Queen of the Blues in 2016 by Dr. Nick Johnson of WPFW Radio.
Carly’s band represented DC in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January 2019 and advanced to the Semi-finals.
In Early 2019 released a new EP titled Kiss & Ride Vol. 1 and the hit single ” She Ain’t Me” is charting on regional blues radio stations. She was shortly after voted 2nd place for Best Performance Artist in Washington City Paper’s ” Best of DC 2019″
International crossover album titled Among The Stars and an EP titled Y.A.M.W.A.O. with Italian producer/composer Taste of Dream is an additional project that has allowed Carly to explore an element of her musicianship beyond the Blues.
