My favorite time of year has arrived! My birthday was last week and this 60-70 degree weather is my jam. I hear tell it’s going to be 70 and sunny tomorrow for one of my favorite events of the year, Oakhurst Porchfest.

‘The Oakhurst Porchfest is a commercial-free, grassroots community music spectacle in Decatur, Georgia, where front porches become stages, yards become venues, and radical generosity and good will rule the day.

Porchfest is much more an afternoon of coordinated yard performances than it is a conventional festival. There’s no real boss, no specific enclosed or protected area, and everything you see, eat, or experience exists only because someone decided to step up and make it happen. All of our day-of operations and oversight gets delegated to our hundreds of volunteering neighbors and thousands of guests, making every Block Captain, porch host, performer, vendor and attendee a de facto co-creator and real-time manager of the event. The organizing committee, such that it is, exists only to manage basic front-end logistics, coordinate performances, and promote the day.’

My band will be playing outside the Oakhurst Presbyterian Church at 118 Second Ave from 4-5, but there will be music all over Oakhurst starting at noon. We’re in a pretty good traffic area, so people watching and dog scritches and making new friends is highly probable. You can walk around Oakhurst and visit whichever porches intrigue you, or you can plan your day based on the map and schedule, which you can find HERE. There will be some porches serving and/or selling food and beverages, but it is also encouraged to bring your own. Or if you don’t have time to bag it, there are a few restaurants near the festivities as well. I do know if you’re attending my show the church lights up the grill…

This is one of my favorite events for a reason. If you haven’t attended it yet, I highly recommend it. It’s always nice to see new faces in the crowd, and it’s always nice to see familiar ones too. Let’s get together and boogie in the sun! You may even discover some new local artists you’ll fall in love with.

If you’re not quite done having an awesome time, join us for round two tomorrow night (Saturday) at Winston’s Food & Spirits on Sandy Plains. We’ll play some fun and maybe even interactive covers along with more original music. Get ready for songs about whiskey, songs about jail, songs about birds, dogs, squirrels… Great late night pub grub plus your favorite friends and staff, and always the possibility of shenanigans. We play from 8-11. Winston’s Facebook

We will also be playing at Winston’s again on Saturday, November 1st.

Next Wednesday, October 15th, Edgar and I will be returning to Anthony’s in Fayetteville. Anthony’s has some of the best pizza in town, assuming your not some kind of anarchist who doesn’t like grease. And you can get it by the slice and cater your toppings as you choose.

Anthony’s is located in the heart of downtown Fayetteville at 107 Stonewall Ave E. You can learn more about them and their events on their website, Anthony’s Facebook. Music is from 6-9.

Due to all the health issues I’ve been going through, I really haven’t been able to do much touring since 2023. I did get to play a show in Winston-Salem in August, and now I’m finally getting back on the road, even if it’s only for short trips. This month I’m headed to South Carolina for a wedding, but you know me, traveling means shows and new audiences. I’m playing a couple spots I’ve already played, so I KNOW they’re a blast!

Wednesday, 10/22, I’m playing at the Awendaw Green Barn Jam. They do this every Wednesday, and man do they have it down. It’s an original music showcase, so I get to play my original songs for a brand new audience. Plus it’s on the green, so you can bring your own snacks and beverages. Non-aggressive dogs are allowed on a leash, BYOB, eats by The Roost Bar and Grille & Holy City Popcorn. This amazing series is Rain or Shine. For more information visit their website: Awendaw Green Barn Jams

TICKET INFORMATION: Walkups will be available day of ($10 each- cash only and kids under 12 free)
We thank the Town of Awendaw and Sewee Outpost for allowing these gatherings, and our ability to bring the music-loving community together.’
Then, on 10/27, I’ll be playing in the Songwriter’s Soapbox at Chico Feo in Folly Beach. I will be the featured artist, but the show begins at 6pm and there will be a lot of talented local musicians on the show as well. Plus, my brother will also be in town and will be playing some Trailduster songs. AND, BONUS, Skye Paige may play some slide guitar on a couple of my songs. So really, I do not think if you are in the area that you have any business missing this show. Did I mention the food is delicious? TACOS. Just sayin.
Matthew Strachota:

Skye Paige is an American songwriter, multi-instrumentalists, national touring recording artist, performer, and producer. Skye Paige is known for her slide guitar playing, with a diverse musical influence of blues, rock, and honky tonk. She has written and recorded over 60 original songs, and has an impressive resume, which dates back to the early 90’s.
In November, the trio is headed to the beach! We’re playing a new spot in Savannah called the Wormhole on Friday night, 11/14. This place hosts all kinds of original music. It’s a neighborhood dive bar AND a music venue, which is kind of my favorite thing. Really looking forward to this show. Music is from 9:30 – 12:30, and they do serve late night food. For more information visit the Wormhole Website.
Then, on Saturday we will be heading down to Tybee Island to play at Huc-A-Poos, your favorite dive bar/pizza joint on the island, and well, possibly anywhere. This pizza is SO GOOD. And you get unlimited toppings for the same price. This is one of the least expensive spots to be a tourist, and you will very likely see some stuff. Talk about shenanigans. Music starts at 10pm. Huc-A-Poos Website
Sunday, 11/25, I’ll be playing solo at Jazz’d Tapas in Savannah. They have live music every Wednesday through Sunday and an extensive menu of tapas that all look yummy! Join me for yet another venue debut for me. You know you need to get away. Jazz’d Website

On October 31st, that’s right, Halloween, I’ll be playing some spooky tunes at my favorite vineyard in Elijay, Ott Farms. This is one of my favorite spots to play as the view is fabulous, the staff is family, and I get to play a wide variety of stuff. There’s often people watching as well, as many bachelorette and birthday parties come through the wine route in the north Georgia mountains. There is finger food available and there is always a food truck on premise. Oh yeah, and a wide variety of tasty wine to pair your cheese with. Music on Halloween will be from 1:30-3:30.

I will also be playing at Ott in December on Saturday, 12/6 from 1:30 – 5:30. Check the Ott Vineyards Website for more information and to see the food truck schedule.

Friday, 11/28, the trio will be back at Fat Matt’s in Atlanta. I can’t think of a better way to wind down your Black Friday than with some BBQ and blues. We love the food and the staff in here, and you might have heard this place is nationally known, so you never know who you might see. Music is from 7-10. We will also be back at Fat Matt’s January 9th. Fat Matt’s Website

I am also planning to add a couple Wisconsin dates in November, so keep checking the website for new updates. Don’t forget to save the date for the WRFG Community Sessions with Nathan Nelson and Scott Low on February 22 at the L5P Community Center from 4-6. Looking forward to seeing everyone out and about in the coming months! Don’t forget to #supportlocalmusic #supportlivemusic #supportlivemusicvenues With the industry changing so rapidly and dramatically, we need your support now more than ever!
