Hey everyone!!! Welcome all of us to 2024! 2023 was a riot, and I can’t wait to see what awaits us in the new year!
2023 included a ton of traveling. The Wasted Potential Brass Band embarked on their first southeastern tour, while I expanded my fall tour to head all the way up to Seattle, down the west coast, and back to the southeast. We clocked in well over 10,000 miles, and played shows in over 20 states! This year I am looking to add to that travel, including gigs in south GA in February, gigs in New Orleans and WI in April, NC and SC in May, and hopefully another successful western tour in the fall. I am still trying to figure out how to incorporate the northeast in my travels, as I have had requests in NY and Maine, so keep sifting through these emails to find out when I am heading your way!
2023 included the release of Mudcat’s newest album, Flight School, on which I sang vocals. If you haven’t gotten to check it out yet, do yourself a favor! I am planning to get in the studio with more than one project this year, so keep following updates. I am planning to release no less than 2-3 EPs/LPs among my different projects in the coming year. For ways to purchase Flight School digitally or physically visit Mudcat Bandcamp.
The first gig of the New Year will be happening right here close to home, so all of you that have missed me in my travels have an opportunity to come wish me well into a new year full of adventures. My band will be playing at Rootstock in Woodstock, a relatively new venue that has rapidly gained a stellar reputation for enjoying amazing local music. I am really looking forward to this gig. I will have my road dog Edgar Clark, Jr. on the drums, and you will have the opportunity to meet my new bassist, whom I picked up in Knoxville, Will Pass, as well as Daryl Dunn on sax and possibly a couple other guests. We are really hoping to expand our band presence this year, both locally and regionally, and would love to have your support in doing so! The show is Saturday, 1/13, and music begins at 7pm. I will also be returning to my favorite north GA winery, Ott Farms and Vineyards, on 1/26. This is a solo acoustic show from 1:30-5:30. What better way to start your weekend? Limited snacks available from the tasting room, and always an awesome food truck (TBA). Ott Farms and Vineyards Website
Saturday, 1/27, is our favorite Kirkwood festival, ‘Lanta Gras. Wasted Potential will be playing on the Sweetwater Stage at 2 pm. Enjoy the parade at 1, some New Orleans flavored brass music, and then stop into my favorite local bar (I’ll be on the other side for a change), Bob & Harriet’s Home Bar, to support some of my favorite people on the planet. The following Friday, 2/2, I’ll be playing some blues tunes at the nationally famous Atlanta staple, Fat Matt’s Rib Shack. It will be a small setup (if you’ve been in this place you understand why), but it will be a heavy amount of soul. Get your BBQ on. Music is from 8-10:30.
Then – you guessed it! More Mardi Gras activities for the brass band. Saturday, 2/3, we will be playing at Atkins Park Smyrna’s annual Oyster Fest. The following weekend we will be playing the Mardi Gras party in the Plant Riverside District in Savannah as well as other dates to be
announced, and then we will return to Tucker, GA for Fat Tuesday festivities at Moonshadow Tavern.
I’ll check in with y’all again in a few weeks, but please remember to check the website for upcoming dates. As always, if you have a venue you’d really like to see me in – anywhere in the country, or soon to be the world – please let me know and hook me up with any contact info you may have at strachotamandi@gmail.com. This ESPECIALLY applies if you have a couch or a spare bedroom to share!
While I’m hoping this year does not bring as many gravel roads, moose sightings, conversations with crackheads, or portals to the dark world (like I said, 2023 was a RIOT), I am always looking forward to more adventures and I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the coming year.
Thanks again for your continued support!!!
