Happy fall everyone!! I hope you all survived the storm and are enjoying the cool breeze. There’s a lot going on, so let’s get to it!
Tomorrow, October 13, is one of my favorite festivals of the year, Oakhurst Porchfest. For those of you who don’t know anything about Porchfest, it is a festival in Oakhurst where a bunch of local musicians play on people’s porches. The acts are timed differently throughout the neighborhood so you can wander around and experience different aspects of the local music scene. This festival is not limited to one specific genre, although it is recommended to stay on the acoustic side. But you can hear bluegrass, blues, r&b, country, and New Orleans style brass all without leaving a small radius. Feel free to bring your bike or a wagon and chairs and coolers… You will not really be able to drive around the neighborhood once the festival starts. There will be food and beverage offered in various places, but you are also welcome to bring your own. I will be playing a solo set including some songs off Unleashed and some new tunes from noon to 1 at 207 4th Ave, and then I will be playing a set with Wasted Potential from 5-6 at 311 Madison Ave. There will be music all over the neighborhood starting at noon and ending at 7. Here is a map of the festival so you can plan your route accordingly: Porchfest Map 2018
Then, following Porchfest that evening, I will be joining Wasted Potential for the Avondale Lantern Parade beginning around 7:45. And on 10/14 Wasted Potential will be representing Kaiser Permanente in Atlanta’s Pride Parade. I look forward to this event as an observer every year, but this is the first time I will actually be walking in the parade. I’m really looking forward to it! This parade is extremely popular, so get there early to get a good spot.
Saturday, October 20, Wasted Potential will be back in the studio to work on some finishing touches for this new album. I’ll let you know once we finalize some details on when you’ll get to hear it, but in the meantime, if you want to come to one of our shows I guarantee we’ll give you a sneak peek. And in between sessions, we’ll be playing a festival at Terrapin in Athens that Saturday from 5-6. So all my Athens friends please stop by the brewery and say hi!
Sunday October 21 the ‘Major 7s’ and I will be back at Darwin’s for a gospel show. If you guys haven’t been to this show yet, you really ought to make it a point. We have SO MUCH FUN. There’s something about singing uplifting songs all day that just makes you feel good (imagine that!) We don’t stick strictly to traditional gospel, although we do play some standards. But we also play positive songs from Willie Nelson, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, and more. And a particular treat is the chicken and waffles that are available only on Sundays. This is a lineup of amazing musicians, so I promise you will not be disappointed. The show on 10/21 is at a later time than usual from 6-9. We will also be playing another gospel show at Darwin’s on 11/4 at the usual time from 4-7. Darwin’s is located at 234 Hildebrand in Sandy Springs (470) 399-5060.
Saturday, November 3rd, Wasted Potential will be returning to the Art Place at Mountain View in Marietta. We were here earlier this year but we got rained out for the second set. This is a free show and you are perfectly welcome to bring coolers and chairs. This is also right down the street from my house, so I’m expecting to see some friendly faces (wink wink). Then for the next couple weeks of November I will be out of town to do some more recording and to attend the Oyster Riot in DC with Mudcat. This was an extremely awesome time last year, and I’m really looking forward to participating again. DC folks, I can’t wait to see you again!

Saturday, 11/24, I will be returning with my band to the Hunt House in Marietta. This is a wonderful little house on the hill with a reputation for great, intimate live music. We had so much fun the last time we played there and I am really looking forward to being back on a weekend this time. There will be local catering for your food and beverage needs. Please join me as I play several originals from my last two albums and more new songs! The Hunt House is located at 1127 White Cir NW, Marietta, Georgia 30060 (770)396-5361.
Don’t forget Bytchcraft plays at Darwin’s in Sandy Springs every Wednesday afternoon from 1-4. You never know who’s going to stop by; this maybe a bad time for the corporate world, but there are often musicians and special guests in the house. If you can get away for your lunch break, I recommend it. And it’s totally possible there will be squirrels on Halloween… Just saying…
And a sneak peek into December… Mudcat’s album release for Castaway will be on December 1st at Avondale… more details to follow…
Hope to see you sometime in the next couple months!! Don’t forget to #supportlocalmusic and like me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter and Instagram, listen to me on Spotify and iTunes, and keep up with me on my website www.mandistrachota.com.
