Hey everyone!!! Welcome to the New Year!!! I am very ambitious about all of the things coming up this year. Among them will be finishing the country album in California with my brother (hopefully along with a release this fall), performing at Super Bowl parties here in Atlanta, and a Wasted Potential CD release this spring. More details on all of that to follow. 2018 included a trip to Bonnaroo with Wasted Potential, a trip to D.C. with Mudcat, an album release with Mudcat, and the beginnings of the country album in San Diego, as well as placements of my songs in both Indie films Live Or Die In La Honda and Prison Logic. These things as well as my latest release Unleashed are all available to view/listen to online. You can find both movies on Amazon Prime and other downloading services.
You can buy Unleashed on Amazon, CD Baby, and Bandcamp as well as the www.mandistrachota.com website. You can also listen to it on Spotify. Look for some ‘get this stuff out of my basement’ sales coming up in the next couple months.
I am hoping that 2019 will be even more exciting and prosperous than last year. Lots of exciting things happening in January. We begin with the Hunt House tomorrow night. The band and I will be returning to the Hunt House in Marietta tomorrow night near Kennesaw mountain. The Hunt House is a quaint listening room where you will get to hear us play all of the songs from Unleashed as well as a bunch of the new country songs and a couple oldies but goodies from Fly. This venue is kid friendly and has some fantastic catering by Parsley’s including some delicious pizza. This is an early show for those of you who don’t like to stay out too late, and for those that do you can stop by to see us on your way to support more local music! Sounds like a win to me. I’m bringing the full band including sax and percussion so it is bound to be an awesome show. Music is from 7-10. The Hunt House is located at 1127 White Circle NW in Marietta GA. Contact them at (770)396-5361 or check out their website Hunt House Website.
Then Sunday January 6th, Mandi and the Major 7s will be back at Darwin’s doing their gospel thing. That’s right, you get to see us two days in a row if you so choose. It will be a completely different set of music so no worries about getting bored! We play spiritual songs from traditional gospel music to Willie Nelson to Taj Mahal to Stevie Wonder. Singing along is encouraged. This is also a kid friendly event and don’t forget about the chicken & waffle special! Starting next month we will be doing these every second Sunday, but we are sticking to the first Sunday this month because we want to get the New Year started with a bang. Please come raise a joyous noise with us! Show is from 4-7. Darwin’s is located at 234 Hildebrand in Sandy Springs, GA, (470) 399-5060. Darwin’s Website
Don’t forget, every Wednesday afternoon I am at Darwin’s for Bytchcraft from 1-4. Free music with your lunch is a good thing, and you seriously never know who will stop by. It’s rumored that some musicians like to hang out there. Often music breaks out. And squirrels. Lots of squirrels.
Thursday, January 10 I’ll be playing at Hard Rock Cafe in downtown Atlanta. This is a rescheduled show from last year. I apologize to those of you who were planning on making that show, but I promise this one is on. I WILL be eating buffalo cauliflower next Thursday. Seriously, it’s so good. Listen to some free music with your dinner and check out the memorabilia along the walls. I’ll be playing a mix of originals and soulful covers on a gorgeous stage in the heart of downtown Atlanta from 7-10. Hard Rock is located at 215 Peachtree St NE in Atlanta, GA, (404) 688-7625. Then Friday, January 11, I’ll be playing a songwriters in the round show at Waller’s Coffee Shop. Jason Waller is also a local artist who makes really good coffee (you may remember him from the Chicken Raid last year) and who recently opened his own coffee house. Let’s show him some love and get the word out about his awesome new establishment! I always look forward to writers in the round shows as I often play them with artists I haven’t heard before who happen to be amazing and as a result I always leave inspired to write more songs. Sounds to me like something you should be present for. I’ll be playing alongside Matt Donald and Julian Morena. Waller’s is located at 240 Dekalb Industrial Way, Decatur, Georgia 30033. Sunday, January 27, I’ll be returning to Limerick Junction in the Virginia Highlands. Located next door to Blind Willie’s, Limerick is the oldest Irish pub in the Atlanta area and features local music on the weekends. I am honored to be a part of this cast of characters. I don’t know anyone who hangs out at this place and doesn’t manage to have a good time. Music begins at 9 pm and the fun continues as long as the law will allow. Limerick is located at 822 N Highland Ave NE in Atlanta, GA, (404) 874-7147. View Limerick Junction Website
The rest of the month is dedicated to getting ready for the Wasted Potential release, planning for the upcoming trip out west to record, and writing new songs! Hope y’all have started this New Year on a wonderful note and I look forward to seeing all of you very, very soon!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
